Screenprinting & Bookbinding weekend - with MOPS
Bookbinding & Printmaking Workshop - November 8th & 9th
Sat: 10am - 5pm
Sun: 11am - 5pm
Join us for a weekend of printmaking and bookbinding!
Screen printing onto a bookcloth is a technique I’ve been using for years on special projects, and I love it for the fact that it lets you create bold designs on the bookcloth that can be turned around the edges and spine.
This two day workshop is led by artist & founder of Mobile Print Studio, David Farrar, and Gillian Stewart - bookbinder and founder of Juju Books.
On Saturday you’ll be working in the print studio under the expert eye of David. You’ll print onto paper as well as specialist bookcloth fabric. You’ll learn:
-How to create the design for your book cover and endpapers
-Translating your design into a negative
-Exposing your design onto a prepared screen
-How to hand pull your print using a screen and squeegee
-How best to translate a design into a bold graphic design suitable for screenprinting
On Sunday you’ll travel just along the corridor in the same studio building where you’ll then turn your screenprints into a totally unique book. You’ll learn:
-How to prepare your paper pages
-How to sew a book block
-How to make a hard cover using your screenprinted bookcloth
-How to join the pages and cover together
-How to print a title on your book in gold or silver using specialist foil blocking equipment
Spaces are limited to ensure lots of attention and time with the equipment.
The ticket includes all specialist materials and use of professional tools, as well as teas, coffees and biscuits.
The studio is a short train from Glasgow central with lots of free on-street parking outside.
The images are examples of previous projects made using screenprints, but your book will of course be unique!
Workshop bookings are non-refundable unless a replacement can be found. Please make sure you can attend the date at the time of booking.
