Workshop - Slipcase - 16.11.25

Workshop - Slipcase - 16.11.25
Sunday the 16th November
Juju Books Studio, Glasgow
11am - 5pm
Boxmaking is an essential skill for bookbinders, but also handy for printmakers and artists as a way to store work, or anything special
A slipcase is a well loved method of protecting a book when on the shelf, shielding it from light and dirt while allowing the spine to be visible.
We’ll make a slipcase to house an A5 book, but I’ll share my method of measuring and cutting so that you can go forward and make a slipcase of different sizes to house other books. They don’t require heavy or expensive tools, so you’ll be able to make these at home.
During this one day workshop, we’ll learn:
How to make a custom fitted box
Making the structure strong and neat
’Turning in’, or covering the slipcase with covering material, focusing on fiddly cuts for neat results
The importance of ‘pull’ - where preparing the materials properly is key
Measuring and cutting materials accurately
as well as lots of tips and tricks of the trade along the way.
The cost includes all professional tools and materials, and an abundance of carefully selected bookcloths and hand marbled papers. Everyone will leave with one unique slipcase to take away, and the instructions and skills to make more at home.
Suitable for beginners who are good with their hands, as well as those with some experience. This is perfect for bookbinders, artists and designers looking for a way to store and present their books.
We’ll have refreshments to keep us going throughout the day as well as a lunch break. For lunch you can bring a packed lunch or visit the cafe in the studio. The studio is a short train ride from Glasgow Central, and has free on street parking.
Please note that workshop places are limited and only run if a certain number of places are booked. Bookings are non-refundable unless a replacement can be found. Please make sure you can make the date before booking.
