I’m thrilled to be offering this popular workshop this winter! We’ll make a handbound book on hand dyed leather tapes, using traditional bookbinding methods and materials . This book opens completely flat and will be bound in a unique exposed spine stitch.

You’ll learn:

• How to hand materials, tools and adhesives

• How to dye leather

• How to hand sew our text blocks to create a beautiful exposed stitch over leather tapes

• How to prepare our pages for sewing

• How to personalise your cover with foil blocking

• How to make a hard cover with cloth

• ’Casing in’ our book blocks

The cost includes use of all professional tools and high quality materials, including an selection of carefully selected bookcloths, linen thread and archival papers. Everyone will leave with a unique book to take away, and the skills to make more at home.

This structure is ideal for writers, artists, designers, crafters and booklovers. I’ll show you the methods that will let you make more at home without heavy and expensive equipment.

Suitable for beginners who are good with their hands, as well as those with some experience. This is perfect for booklovers, artists and writers looking to learn a rich and versatile craft.

We’ll have refreshments to keep us going throughout the day, so please let me know at the time of booking if you have any dietary requirements. The studio is a short walk from Bridgeton train station and there’s plenty of free on-street parking outside.
