I’m excited to open up my working studio to a small number of places this winter, teaching the vital skill of boxmaking.

A magnetic closure tray box is a versatile and archival way to store special items. We’ll make a box to house A4 items, but I’ll share my method of measuring and cutting so that you can go forward and make boxes of different sizes to house (almost) anything. They don’t require heavy or expensive tools, so you’ll be able to make these at home.

During this one day workshop, we’ll learn:

-How to make a custom fitted box
-Creating a hidden magnet closure
-’Turning in’, or covering trays with covering material
-Making a hardcover case
-Attaching our case around our tray for an accurate fit
-Measuring and cutting materials accurately
-Personalising the box with a foil blocked title

as well as lots of tips and tricks of the trade along the way.

The cost includes all professional tools and materials, and an abundance of carefully selected bookcloths and papers. Everyone will leave with one unique box to take away, and the skills to make more at home.

Suitable for beginners who are good with their hands, as well as those with some experience. This is perfect for booklovers, artists and photographers looking to learn a unique way to store and present their work.

We’ll have refreshments to keep us going throughout the day as well as a lunch break. The studio is a short train ride from Glasgow Central, and has free on street parking
