Juju Books was founded in Glasgow in 2017 by illustrator, bookbinder and all round stationery enthusiast Gillian Stewart.
After gaining a Design Degree from Glasgow School of Art, and time spent working in a commercial bookbinders, Gillian went on to become a prize winning QEST Craft Scholar, studying from Master (and Mistress) bookbinders across Europe.
From a bright studio in Glasgow's East End, we make books by hand for artists, designers and book lovers.
We can work with you to design books, boxes, slipcases or portfolios for a project, and love a challenge.
We also sell hand bound limited run items that showcase traditional techniques with contemporary design, made with ethically sourced materials.
Bookbinding is a craft that involves several processes; learned, practised and refined over time.
We start by gathering and folding the pages of the book, and then sew them books using methods that have been used for centuries.
Books can be covered in a range of materials, and recently we’ve bound books in book cloth, cork, screen printed textiles, acrylic, illustrated prints and wood.
Using carefully sourced paper and cloth, we design covers for the outside of the books. These are then hand finished with complimentary foil blocking and nestled around the book, before being pressed in our hard working cast iron book press.
